Meet Shelby

Shelby is a beautiful Chow Chow of 6 years old that is on the lookout for a loving home where she can truly blossom, feeling loved and safe. Having previously been used for breeding, Shelby hasn’t had the best start in life, and yearns for a family that will show her what it means to be cherished by those around her. Despite this start in life, Shelby is a beautiful girl with such a warm and loving personality, and really deserves to find her forever home.

Shelby is your typical Chow and can be aloof with new people, however, builds relationships well and with the promise of a tasty treat or two will be your friend in no time at all. Shelby has been going out on walks and hanging out with our volunteers here at the shelter, and has done really well in meeting and greeting new people and building a circle of friends – you won’t be surprised to know she is a popular girl – who could say no to that face?! Shelby also recently spent some time in a foster home (see video for her being a cuddle bug!) and was reported to have behaved beautifully, not putting a paw wrong and settling straight back into home life, despite having sadly been in kennels for over a year now.

Shelby settles well in the home, as long as she has a comfy bed or a spot on the sofa to rest she will be able to be left for up to 4 hours. Having been used for breeding, Shelby isn’t super tolerant of dogs in her space so would prefer to be the only one in the home, however she will happily trot alongside calm walking friends out and about. Shelby travels well in the car, so would be happy to join her family on adventures further afield.

When she came to us Shelby wasn’t in the best condition at all, covered in sores and suffering from entropian. The team have dedicated so much to her health care, and are looking for a home that will be comfortable in continuing this. She has a couple of medications to keep her in tip-top condition, which we are happy to discuss further with potential adopters.

Please note, as Shelby is a long term resident at WARS with ongoing medical needs, her adoption fee will be at a reduced rate of £150.
