Meet Shelby,

She came to WARS due to her owners circumstances changing.

Shelby is a beautiful Chow Chow who certainly fits the breed description.  She is very loyal and loving and bonds strongly to her familiar favorite people.

True to the breeds nature Shelby can be wary and uncertain of strangers, in particular men.  She has previously struggled with unfamiliar men coming into the home and does need careful management, in her new home with visiting strangers. Shelby wouldn’t cope with new people coming daily.

We are looking for a experienced home with patient owners who have done their breed research or had similar breeds previously. She will need her new family to be able to make frequent visits during the adoption period, so she can build a good relationship with her new family.

Shelby has undergone a lot of medical rehabilitation with us while she has been getting ready for adoption due to having really poorly skin, she must have been in some discomfort previously as underneath her beautiful fluffy coat revealed awful sores and infection when she was admitted. She underwent a big coat clip and medical baths, she is feeling much better and comfortable, and she has recently started a new hypoallergenic diet and steroids for her ears. Shelby is  now ready to start looking for her new family, and in the future will just need her diet to be maintained. Keeping up with with good coat care and grooming alongside her ears cleaned will be essential, Shelby isn’t a low maintenance dog with daily care.

Please note her coat will take some time to grow back, and she is now clipped short due to medical reasons.

Shelby is a beautiful, dog, with so much to give the right person and you will have a best friend for life, if you’re willing to keep her safe and understand her needs.

Shelby is looking for an adult only home, with no other pets, although she can walk well with other dogs, it’s important she continues this outside to keep up her doggy skills.  She doesn’t want much from other dogs and prefers her own space inside the home. Shelby has previously been known to enjoy spending time in the garden, she  is an independent girl in the home, which is common for the breed.
