About Me
Meet Vesper,
Vesper is a beautiful smaller shepherd type mix. She only weighs 17kg and likely has some collie in her. She is an extremely intelligent is everyone’s best friend, she is full of joy and eager to please her handler, she is very keen to learn.
Vesper is a very playful dog who loves to carry a toy around her mouth. She can be very cuddly and expects regular fuss. She loves being outdoors with lots to sniff and run about in.
Vesper has a interesting relationship with other dogs. Dogs she doesn’t know she can be very vocal towards them and she can be quite dog selective in who she does and doesn’t like. She is very under socialised and doesn’t really know what to do. She meets many dogs here and when correctly introduced and those other dogs are calm and tolerant, then she will get on just fine. She does need responsible dog ownership as she doesn’t understand social signals, she has been off lead with a couple of dogs and does have some close doggie friends at the shelter.
We have done a lot of training work with Vesper to get her to a stage where she could enter a home. However, those looking to rehome her must have prior experience with good current dog training science, i.e. positive reinforcement, all things vital to keep this girl on the right track. Vesper is very eager to please and fun to train! It is very clear that she isn’t had much from life or lived a normal pet lifestyle, so in her new home, Vesper will be a bit of a project dog that needs to be treated like a puppy. Everything new needs to be super positive and exposed to her slowly. It would be wise to set expectations that, she likely isn’t going to be the type of dog, that once adopted could go for a coffee shop outing, things that companion dogs do day to day will need to be built up gradually for this young lady she is an active dog, that thrives in routine and consistency.
Vesper would be great at activities like man-trailing, agility, Canicross. She is ideal for someone who wants to go out for long hikes and adventures. As well as that important exercise she adores she requires mental stimulation, the use of puzzle feeders and Kong toys are vital to keeping her entertained.
Although Vesper is a very confident tactile girl with those she trusts, and bonds with she can sometimes be quite shy depending on your approach towards her. She will need someone who will advocate for her in situations where strangers may want to touch or approach her when she isn’t comfortable.
Picking a breed that matches your lifestyle is vital for it to be a successful match.
Vesper is looking for an adult only home and one where she will she be left no longer than 4 hours, so she can build an established settled routine to set her up for success.
