Toya has come into WARS from Lakeland Trailhound Welfare, after she was retired from racing earlier this year. She is a lovely girl and really does enjoy meeting new people, like most Trailhounds. She can, on occasion be a little grumpy around other dogs and much prefers her own company, but the staff here are walking her with other dogs to build up her confidence. Like most Trailhounds she doesn’t know many commands and the staff and volunteers are starting to teach her the basics.
Toya would be best suited to a home as the only pet and will a family who are willing to undertake basic training and socialsation with her. She will need a fully enclosed garden, with minimum 6ft fencing surrounding. She could live with children 12+.
Trailhounds are very adaptable dogs who make very good family pets. They have fantastic temperaments and tend to be great around children, other dogs and other animals. They need plenty of exercise but in once in the home love nothing more than curling up in front of the fire. They do however, love a smell.. so their noses are likely to be found centimetres off the ground, so recall often needs some work. They are relatively quick learners who are highly motivated by food.
