Sam came into WARS after being retired from racing. He is just the sweetest boy, as a visitor said, a bit of a gentleman. He is a real people dog, who will gently put his front paws on you and accept all the fuss and praise you have to offer. He is pretty indifferent to other dogs, not really caring either way if they are around. He is a strong boy on a lead though and will require further training, including house training. Oh and you will struggle to find a time where he doesn’t have his tongue hanging out the side of his mouth.
Sam would suit a home with a family who can handle a strong trailhound on the lead. He will want a family at home for a good part of the day as he is a sociable boy and he will need a fully enclosed garden with a minimum 6ft fence all the way around. He could live with another dog and possibly a cat. Due to his strength we feel he would suit a home with children 10+.
Trailhounds are very adaptable dogs who make very good family pets. They have fantastic temperaments and tend to be great around children, other dogs and other animals. They need plenty of exercise but in once in the home love nothing more than curling up in front of the fire. They do however, love a smell.. so their noses are likely to be found centimetres off the ground, so recall often needs some work. They are relatively quick learners who are highly motivated by food.
