Mary came in to WARS with her friend Kizzy. They haven’t been in long but are already winning fans at the Shelter. She is a sweet natured girl who is gaining confidence all the time and loves meeting new people especially if you have a treat. She is slowly learning a few basic commands, but as with most Trailhounds with patience and time and you will soon be rewarded.
Mary can be nervous in some situations so will require an experienced owner who is able to give her plenty of time and patience in order to settle into her new home. She will need an owner that is around the majority of the day and who would be willing to help Mary continue her general obedience and recall work. She would love a ample sized and well enclosed garden to stretch those long legs of hers and as long as she has a comfy corner of a sofa to curl up on she’ll be a happy girl. She would enjoy having another confident dog around and can live with cats as well as children of a suitable age.
Trailhounds are very adaptable dogs who make very good family pets. They have fantastic temperaments and tend to be great around children, other dogs and other animals. They need plenty of exercise but in once in the home love nothing more than curling up in front of the fire. They do however, love a smell.. so their noses are likely to be found centimetres off the ground, so recall often needs some work. They are relatively quick learners who are highly motivated by food.
