Jake came in through no fault of his own. He is a sweet, wriggly little boy. He can be a little unsure of strangers at first but soon warms to you after a few minutes. Once he knows you, he loves to be with you, so appreciates company as much as he can get it. He is not a hand bag dog, in fact he does love his walks and especially enjoys a good run around in our play pens. However, he does have an issue with his knee and we are currently raising funds to have this operated on. So from now on his exercise will need to be managed. He can be a little worried around other dogs, especially bigger dogs, which is understandable as he is a wee little boy. So he may need his confidence building for when he does meet other dogs.
Jake would love an adult only home with someone who will be at home a good chunk of the day as he does enjoy company. He could live with another suitable smaller dog. He will still need walks and not carrying in a hand bag, and a fully enclosed garden with no small gaps, would be ideal for him to run and play in.
Like many small dogs, Chihuahuas are less likely than large dogs to be given obedience classes, socialization, or appropriate exercise and training. However, they thrive well when given appropriate socialization and training. The breed tends to be fiercely loyal to one particular person and in some cases may become overprotective of the person, especially around other people or animals.
