Jacob is a retired racing Trailhound, now looking for his forever home. He is a handsome chap and very loving, always enjoying meeting new people. He is a calm boy, who walks well on a lead and happily enjoys walks with some of his doggy friends here at the shelter. Like most Trailhounds he doesn’t know many basic commands, but as he loves his food and treats, this does help with the basics, which he has already started to learn here at the shelter.
Jacob will need a home where his new family are at home for a good part of the day. Whilst he does like to walk and socialise with other dogs, he is not keen on sharing his food, so would be better off as the only dog. He will need a fully enclosed garden with 6ft fencing and will need a couple of nice walks a day.
Trailhounds are very adaptable dogs who make very good family pets. They have fantastic temperaments and tend to be great around children, other dogs and other animals. They need plenty of exercise but in once in the home love nothing more than curling up in front of the fire. They do however, love a smell.. so their noses are likely to be found centimetres off the ground, so recall often needs some work. They are relatively quick learners who are highly motivated by food.
