Open Day & Fun Dog Show Sunday 16th September 2012
A great day was had by all at our Open Day and Fun Dog Show on Sunday 16th September.
We had a sunny day without rain and raised an incredible £2883.83!
We would like to say a big thank you to all who attended or supported us for the event in any way.
The picture on the left shows the chaos during our egg and spoon race and the picture to the right shows our best in show winner, Jazz the Trailhound with her handler Helen.
Waitrose Community Matters Scheme
Good news. We have been selected for the Waitrose Community Matters Scheme for the month of October in Waitroise, Malvern. We are 1 of 3 charities that get a share of £1000 based on customer votes. Get ready to put your green counters in the WARS box.
Dog Show 3rd June 2012
Despite the weather being very wet we managed to raise £2,211.39 which is a fantastic amount!
Miss Worcester was our special guest for the day. She is pictured to the left selling raffle tickets.
We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came and supported us and to all who helped out in any way.
We would also like to thank our judges, John and Kim and there stewards as they did a great job.
New surface for playpens
It's finally happening! Thanks to our generous supporters we managed to raise the target money for resurfacing the playpens. All the muddy grass in the playpens is being replaced with artificial grass so that the dogs will be able to run and play off-lead all year long.
Half Marathon in aid of WARS
On Sunday April 15th Emily Vaughan ran the Worcester Half Marathon in aid of WARS -
We are impressed and delighted that she raised over £500 for us and completed the course in a great time of 2 hours and 13 minutes.Emily has been a supporter of WARS for a number of years now and we want to say a big thank you to her for all her help and hard work.
Nasty shock - but a happy ending
Staff looking after the dogs had a nasty shock the other day when Tony suddenly became very ill and dehydrated. He was rushed to the vets for surgery, where it emerged he had something stuck in his gullet and was suffering liver and kidney failure. The cost of saving his life has added up to over £600 so far.
This sort of thing makes us more aware than ever of how much we rely on the generosity of our supporters to help pay our vets bills - and of course what a great job the vets do.
Any donations towards the cost of this treatment would be hugely welcome :)
After a short period of convalescence Tony is now out and about again on gentle walks, with his favourite volunteers. We tried to get a photo of him looking sorry for himself, but he was so pleased to be getting a cuddle from Debbie that he looks really rather happy.
Now all Tony needs is for someone to fall in love with him and take him home, for a really perfect happy ending!
Three tiny kittens who we rescued before Christmas have just come back in to us to be microchipped.
Ash, Smudge and Baretta were only 3 weeks old when they were found and we can't believe how much they've grown! They were all rehomed together and are growing up very lively and playful - as you can see from the photos!
Did you know we also have a printed newsletter which comes out twice a year? The first 2012 issue is now available at the Shelter, featuring news, events, and other stories.
We are always looking for stories about our rehomed dogs and cats to publish in this newsletter as well as on the website, so why not write to us about your experiences.
Thank you to all our visitors from Fairfield Community Primary School, who are doing a project on WARS. They raised enough money to Sponsor a Kennel and also made us some special treats for the dogs. Wanda and some of our other dogs enjoyed having a play and a cuddle and Wanda was very good about not eating the treats :)
Treats for the dogs
A massive thank you to John, who gave up almost all of his Easter weekend to redecorate our office and kitchen areas, ably assisted by Craig, Brett and Kerry. It had all been looking really tatty for some time and we are so pleased with how smart and clean everything is now; we really couldn't have done it without them!
We are always so grateful to everyone who gives us donations of money or goods to help our animals. Today we'd like to thank Pets at Home for donating a pallet of dry dog food which will keep a lot of tummies full for a long time!
